The societies final listed outing took place on Saturday 23rd September and was Chris Fahy’s Captains Day. The event was well supported by members and visitors alike at Strandhill golf Club with 38 players on the day, great considering several members where attending a wedding. With the various categories still up for grabs including the all important Captains prize meant there would be plenty of competition.
This Wild Atlantic Way links golf course as usual was in good shape but the unusual Wild Atlantic winds really tested everyone’s golf skills and ability on the day! Things proved difficult for most with only 3 society members breaking the 30-point mark. A remarkable 37 points (given the conditions) from Shane Loftus won him the special Captains Day prize.
The day’s other winners where Fr. Peter Burke with runner up Enda Mc Namara in the Low Handicap Section, Liam Loftus won the High Handicap section, the Ladies category was won by Sharron Morgan with Patricia Bohan as runner up. The Visitors Prize was won by Colm Mulvey, Front and Back Nine went to Martin Mc Gowan and Vincent Mc morrow respectively, Gross went to Danny Egan which means he can keep the same prize he won last year for another year to his delight. Nearest the pin prizes for both men and ladies went to Aiden Mc Keown (17th Hole) and Sharron Morgan (14th Hole). The longest Men’s and Ladies drives where won on the 7th hole by Steve Stead and Breda Travers.
Captain Chris Fahy was in place that evening to duly present 24 different prizes, awards and trophy’s at a busy Monica’s with a great turn out for the Presentation evening which included those in the running for the Golfer of the Year categories and other main awards.

- The Mens Low Handicap GOY ‘Leitrim Chrystal Trophy’ was won by and presented to Vincent McMorrow
- Mens High Handicap GOY ‘Cyril Reynolds’ Trophy was won by and presented to Enda Mc Namara
- AGGS Overall Golfer of the Year ‘Brian Mc Keown Trophy’ was won by and presented to Steve Stead.
Well done to all off this year’s winners and a massive thanks to all members for making the society so successful and enjoyable this year.
