Welcome to the Allen Gaels Golf Society website!!

AGGS was formed in 1994 with local Allen Gaels GAA club members being instrumental in starting this now long established golf society and in the meantime, has evolved into a highly successful and enjoyable society for all who get involved. Whilst many members of the society are from the local area and wider community, many members travel to outings from various parts of the country. New members young and old are always welcome.

Initially, there was only one competition, the Golfer of the Year. However, over time, the society has added other competitions, such as, the Matchplay, High Handicap Golfer of the Year and Ladies Golfer of the Year.  Since 1998, the Society has travelled abroad for a holiday that encompasses golf and of course seeing various parts of the world.  Places visited include Tunisia, Spain, Portugal, South Africa, Dominican Republic, United States, Thailand, Tenerife, Argentina, Italy and most recently, a terrific trip to Turkey.  Also, around early June, members & guests can enjoy ‘the mini-trip’ where the group in the past have travelled to many fine golf courses throughout Ireland, whilst in the surroundings of a nice hotel for 2 or 3 nights.

Each year, we play around 8 competitive outings and the committee tries to ensure one new venue is added every so often.  We now have visited at least 34 different courses in Ireland since the Society started, with new destinations popping up every so often, internationally we have visited over 100 courses.

Our first Captain in 1995 was the late James McGuire, RIP.  In the meantime, we have had many excellent Captains and this year is quite a historical one as we have our first lady as Captain in Breda Travers.

Finally, we welcome new and old members to the society and hope everyone has as much enjoyment with the Society in 2023 as in previous years. As always, all competitions will be very strongly contested for, but with lots of fun and we look forward to seeing our golfing friends on the fairways throughout this year and for many more in the future.

If anyone has any photos or comments they want to add to the website, then you can e-mail them to aidanmckeon@hotmail.com
