The destination for the 2013 foreign holiday was just outside Milan in northern Italy. The holiday was brought forward this year to the end of June and as a result the weather for the most part was dry and very warm. The travelling group consisted of 26 golfers and 6 non-golfers. As usual, we had the Reds and the Blues, with the Blues going for a three-in-a-row. Jimmy Egan was captain of the Blues with Alan Loftus leading the Reds. The first day consisted of five 4-ball matches and one 3-ball match with the Reds coming out on top by 4 1/2 points to 1 1/2 points. There was four points available on the second day and with them equally shared the Reds maintained their 3 point lead. The format for day three was identical to the first day and with the Blues winning 4 points to 2 points on the day, the Reds lead was down to a solitary point, 8 1/2 points to 7 1/2 points.
The singles matches on Friday would determine the overall winner and with the temperature in the mid 30’s everyone was feeling the heat. 13 points were up for grabs, however the Reds got off to a fast start and in the end they proved victorious by 16 1/2 points to 12 1/2 points. The highest individual scorer over the four days was Daragh Loftus on 152 points, while Breda Travers was the only golfer of the 26 to win all four matches. Everyone in the group got a chance to see various sights such as Lake Maggiore, Milan, Stresa and Arona.
