27 Society members old and new started of the 2109 season with a visit to Eskerhills GC which has become a firm favourite as the first outing of the year, and for good reason. The County Offaly course was in fantastic condition given the time of year. It was a cold, gusty and blustery day for Padraic Mac Shera Captains Drive but a warm welcome awaited from those in attendance who wished him well for the coming year as he smashed his first down the fairway.
Starting where he left off last year’s GOY Niall Loftus was true to form and was overall winner on the day with 35 points narrowly beating Colm Loftus on a countback, Colm however did win the Low Handicap category for his efforts. The High category was also won on a countback with Lorcan Harrison just beating Aidan McKeon with their 32 points. In the Woman’s category Patricia Bohan won 1st prize on 31 points with Breda Travers runner-up with 30 points. The front nine winner was also confirmed by a countback with Vincent Mc Morrow taking the honours with a good 19 points and Martin McGowan also with 19 points took a prize for the back nine.
