The societies first outing eventually took place last Saturday 10th March at Esker Hills GC, Captains drive had to rescheduled following the postponement from the week before due to the bad weather. On the day it seemed the forecast with plenty of rain promised had possibly put a few people off travelling to Co. Offaly, that along with other usual participants with other commitments meant this outing had a very unusual situation with not a single ‘Lofti’ in attendance which is as rare as Donald Trump having a good hair day!  A relatively small number of 19 players watched as this year’s Captain Maurice Cullen Blast the first shot of year down the middle of fairway on what turned out to be a fine enough day for golf. The course wasn’t in to bad condition considering it was under many feet of snow just days before and meant that much of the ground was wet and spongy but still very playable on what is  a great track and  complimented by their friendly and welcoming staff .
The year’s first outing saw Chris Fahy take the days honors as overall winner after pipping Padraic Mc Shera to victory on a count back, both of whom had 35 points, Padraic won the Mens  low category.  Brothers Ray and Enda Mc Namara both came 2nd in the Men’s High & Low Categories with 32 and 33 points respectively. Ladies winner on the day was Breda Travers with 28 points with second spot in the Ladies category going to Patricia Bohan who scored 24 points. The Front 9 was won by Tommy Aherne with 16 points with Jimmy Egan scoring 17 points on the back 9.
 
The presentation of prizes from Esker Hills along with the draw for the 1st round of the Matchplay will take place in the evening after the next outing which is at Enniscrone GC on Sat 31st March with the first time at 10.30 am.
