The final outing for 2014, and Captain Jimmy Egan’s big day, took place in Athlone (Hodson Bay) on Saturday, September 20th. The weather was glorious with just a light breeze blowing. There was a very good turnout of 35 golfers and scoring was generally low on a tough course. On arrival in the clubhouse, the golfers were greeted by queen cakes with the AGGS name and logo on top, and these went down very well!!

Maurice Cullen emerged victorious, winning his first ‘major’ after a few close misses in previous years. His score of 35 points was a great effort playing off a handicap of 6. Second was Aidan McKeon, one point behind. Breda Travers won the ladies with 32 points, again an excellent return playing off a handicap of 9. Brid Sullivan was second lady also with 32 points. Francis Foley won the high handicap section.

The presentation was held in Monica’s on Saturday night with a large turnout. Maureen Egan produced a fantastic wide array of sanswiches and hot food that was very much apprediated by all. All the prizes for the day and for the year was presented by Captain Jimmy and a great night was had by all.

The average score of all completed rounds was 26.6 points.
