For our society’s 5th outing of 2022 we travelled all the way to Leinster, even though it was only a short journey to our neighbouring county, to Longford GC. A total of 22 members made the trip. Despite the recent wet weather the course was in excellent shape however on the day very windy conditions and a few very heavy showers made it a very stern test of golf.
It turned out to be a momentous event for the overall outing winner, a certain Mr Frank Mulvey. A long standing member of the society and a past captain who has possibly participated in nearly 150 outings finally got over the winning line notching up his maiden victory. Huge congratulations to Frank from all members. A prime example of perseverance paying off. Our very own Richard Bland !. As it happens one of his playing partners on the day, Dessy Doyle, was runner up in the high section. Definitely a case of two players in great form feeding off each other as they say. Certainly they both mastered the conditions and were streets ahead of the opposition.
The Men’s Low category winner was Alan Loftus with Padraic Mc Shera in the runners up berth. Breda Travers won the Ladies section with Kathleen Loftus in second position. Best scoring on the 9’s were Tommy Aherne on the front and Jimmy Egan on the back
